A very navy blue Monday morning. As we started our reading and writing practice, I felt like I had a head-on collision with a wall. Poor Andrew could not keep his focus on the task and it took us a long time to get through today's assignments. After a whole week of good reading and writing, I was surprised. Patience. One more time: patience. Children have 'bad hair days' too.
Andrew's concentration improved later when we were doing our math lesson, and he showed a lot of interest and enthusiasm when we read both Saara's geography book and his own which today talked about money. The book Sonlight uses in Core B is horribly outdated. Come on! Greek money, Spanish money, etc. Those guys have used Euros for over a decade. Never mind how the money looked then or looks now, we talked more about bargaining and bartering. Both kids liked when we came up with a scene at a Turkish market and tried out our bargaining skills. So, it must have been the morning that kept Andrew's eyes wondering away from the pages. The rest of the day was fun!
By the time we were on our way back home from the library, Andrew was doing his best to read the newly borrowed books on his own. The trip to the library was a special one. Both kids finished their summer reading program and were rewarded with some prizes and I ended up enrolling them for a new week-long reading program that has seven categories of books we have to read. We will start tonight with a book about a pet.
